GermainUX monitors the functional performance, technical health, and user experience of live-agent and chatbot interactions in near real time.

It correlates chat activity with the surrounding application, customer journey, user session, errors, and business outcomes. This helps teams determine whether a poor experience was caused by agent availability, ineffective bot responses, technical failures, or the application in which the conversation occurred.

This correlation is particularly useful for eCommerce, CRM, customer portals, and employee-facing business applications.

Continuous monitoring

GermainUX RUM JS or the GermainUX RUM Extension continuously monitors supported chat activity during real user sessions.

Use:

  • RUM JS when the GermainUX monitoring script can be deployed directly in the application.

  • RUM Extension when direct script deployment is unavailable or the application’s security architecture prevents access to the required browser context.

The captured chat evidence is associated with the available application, page, browser, user, conversation, and session context.

Technical investigation with JS Profiler

When a chat issue requires deeper investigation, the GermainUX JS Profiler can provide evidence such as:

  • JavaScript function execution.

  • Function duration.

  • JavaScript errors and stack traces.

  • Chat-related network requests.

  • WebSocket and resource activity available to the browser.

  • Long-running browser tasks.

  • Browser events and user interactions.

  • DOM activity.

  • Application, page, and session context.

The JS Profiler complements continuous chat monitoring. It should generally be enabled for a controlled scope when detailed technical evidence is required.

Session Replay

When Session Replay is enabled, authorized users can review the customer or employee experience surrounding a conversation.

Session Replay can help show:

  • What the user was doing before opening chat.

  • Whether the chat interface appeared and responded correctly.

  • Which application errors or delays occurred.

  • Whether the user repeatedly clicked or abandoned the workflow.

  • What happened after the conversation ended.

Chat messages and input fields must be masked, excluded, or recorded only according to the organization’s privacy and compliance requirements.

When message content collection is authorized and configured, GermainUX can use it for analytics such as:

  • Identifying errors, warnings, or business confirmations.

  • Analyzing sentiment when the applicable analytics are enabled.

  • Finding conversations associated with drop-off or conversion.

  • Quantifying the number of users affected by a recurring issue.

  • Surfacing selected conversation events on the Session Replay timeline.

Whenever GermainUX needs to detect and analyze a specific sentence each time it appears in a conversation or session, create a Phrase of Interest for that sentence.

From insight to action

Detected chat conditions can be used to:

  • Notify GermainUX users through email or another configured notification channel.

  • Create a Watch for an existing chat insight.

  • Trigger an approved HTTP request, webhook, script, or other GermainUX action.

  • Provide contextual information to an external bot, agent tool, or workflow.

  • Generate a scheduled or event-driven report.

  • Initiate an approved diagnostic or corrective process.

Examples include:

  • Notify a support team when customers wait too long for an agent.

  • Trigger an approved integration when chat disconnections exceed an SLA.

  • Inform an external bot that a product is unavailable so an alternative can be suggested.

  • React to an unsuccessful product search with an approved contextual workflow.

  • Escalate repeated bot failures to a human-support process.

Actions require explicit configuration and access to the target system. GermainUX does not change a chat platform’s behavior unless an approved integration or automation has been configured.

A Watch notifies GermainUX users about an existing insight. It does not create the underlying chat insight.

Other chat technologies can be supported when they expose browser events, JavaScript APIs, network interfaces, WebSockets, webhooks, or another integration mechanism accessible to GermainUX.

Support for a platform should be validated before promising specific events or analytics.

Configuration

Chat Monitoring requires integration with the applicable chat platform.

Typical configuration includes:

  1. Deploy RUM JS or the RUM Extension.

  2. Confirm that normal browser-monitoring data reaches GermainUX.

  3. Identify the chat technology and supported integration interface.

  4. Select the conversation events, transactions, and metadata required.

  5. Map the supported chat events to GermainUX data.

  6. Configure approved customer, agent, bot, and conversation identifiers.

  7. Define response, waiting, escalation, completion, and abandonment conditions.

  8. Configure privacy masking, exclusions, access, and retention.

  9. Validate agent, bot, escalation, error, and abandonment scenarios.

  10. Confirm that chat data is associated with the correct user session and business journey.

Many browser and user-experience capabilities are preconfigured. Customization is required only for platform-specific events, business outcomes, privacy requirements, or additional analytics.

Privacy and security

Chat conversations may contain personal, financial, health, authentication, or other confidential information.

Before collecting message content:

  • Define which events and messages are necessary.

  • Avoid collecting passwords, tokens, secrets, payment credentials, or authentication data.

  • Mask or exclude sensitive message and input content.

  • Apply consent requirements.

  • Restrict access to chat data and Session Replay.

  • Configure role-based access and appropriate retention.

  • Validate customer, employee, agent, and bot data separately.

  • Obtain approval from the organization’s privacy, security, and compliance owners.

  • Revalidate the integration after chat-platform or application changes.

Message collection should be limited to the minimum information required for the approved analytics purpose.

Validation

After deployment:

  1. Open the monitored application with an authorized test account.

  2. Start a controlled chatbot or live-agent conversation.

  3. Exchange test messages.

  4. Test agent availability or bot-to-agent escalation when applicable.

  5. Complete or abandon the conversation.

  6. Confirm that the expected chat events and transactions reach GermainUX.

  7. Verify customer, agent, bot, page, conversation, and session associations.

  8. Review the corresponding browser and Session Replay evidence.

  9. Confirm that masking and exclusions operate correctly.

  10. Validate the expected KPIs, watches, and configured actions.
