Display Name for KPIs, Pivots & Measures

⚙️ Configure KPI, Measure and Pivot Display Names

GermainUX allows KPIs, measures and pivots to use display names that differ from their internal names.

Display names make analytics easier to understand by presenting familiar business terminology instead of technical field names from the underlying data model. For example, users can search for and analyze Environment OS without needing to know that the internal field is userAgent.os.

Changing a display name affects how the item is labeled in GermainUX. It does not rename the underlying field or modify the collected data.

🔧 Configure a Display Name

Follow these steps to configure a display name:

  1. Go to Germain Workspace → Left Menu → Settings → Analytics → KPI.

  2. Select the KPI you want to configure.

  3. In the KPI Configuration Editor Right Panel, select Show Advanced.

  4. To modify an existing display name, select it from the list.

  5. Enter the internal field name and the label that users should see.

  6. Save the KPI configuration.

💡 Example: Rename userAgent.os to “Environment OS”

The following example changes the label of the userAgent.os field for the User Session Replay KPI.

  1. Go to Germain Workspace → Left Menu → Settings → Analytics → KPI.

  2. Select User Session Replay.

  3. Select Show Advanced.

  4. Select Add to open the Field Name wizard.

  5. On the Field step, enter:

    SettingValueFielduserAgent.osDisplay NameEnvironment OS

  6. Select Finish to save the display name.

  7. Save the KPI configuration if prompted.

Users will now see Environment OS instead of userAgent.os wherever that configured display name is applied.

Practice

Use terminology familiar to the intended business users.

Keep labels concise and unambiguous.

Use the same label consistently across related KPIs.

Include units where helpful, such as Duration (seconds) or Memory (MB).

Avoid changing a familiar display name unless the meaning of the field has also changed.

Confirm that the new label accurately represents the underlying data.
