> Why role lookup matters

GermainUX can automatically identify the role of a user who encounters a UX, workflow, or technology issue. This helps organizations determine which departments, teams, roles, and other user segments are affected.

Because the same user may have different roles across applications or environments—including Salesforce, Oracle Siebel CRM, and Shopify—GermainUX supports flexible, application-specific role lookups.

## Multi-Value Key Expressions

Key Expressions can use multiple fields to identify the correct role for each user and application context.

For example, a Key Expression can combine:

* `user`
* `system.environment`

This generates a composite lookup key in the following format:

```text theme={null}
<username>|<environment>
```

The composite key ensures that GermainUX assigns the appropriate role when a user has different responsibilities across environments or applications.

## Oracle Siebel CRM Example

The following SQL query retrieves each user’s login and primary role from Oracle Siebel CRM:

```sql theme={null}
SELECT
    u.LOGIN,
    p.POSTN_TYPE_CD AS "Primary Role"
FROM
    siebel.S_CONTACT e,
    siebel.S_USER u,
    siebel.S_POSTN p
WHERE
    e.PR_HELD_POSTN_ID = p.PAR_ROW_ID
    AND e.PAR_ROW_ID = u.PAR_ROW_ID;
```

The retrieved information can then enrich GermainUX user data, enabling dashboards and insights to be segmented by role.

## Business Value

User Role Lookup helps teams:

* Identify which roles are most affected by an issue.
* Compare UX and application performance across departments or teams.
* Measure adoption and productivity by role.
* Prioritize issues affecting critical user populations.
* Deliver role-specific dashboards, alerts, and automated insights.
